Our first character is Donny Dunn, a young man in his mid-twenties who works in a bar. He is the protagonist of the series. The plot revolves around Martha Scott, who is obsessed with him and behaves like a crazed stalker who won’t leave him alone. Although Donny’s erratic behaviour is not fully understood at the beginning of the series, it becomes clear later through his horrific relationship with playwright Darrien O’Connor, who reveals the reasons behind his tangled relationships.
OXTI Core Dynamics:
Now let’s delve into Donny’s character analysis. The core of his character is Arona (OX). He is an obsessive idealist. The root of his obsessive behaviour lies in the malfunctioning of his thought system. For Arona, the thought process is like a factory. If the thought system breaks down, the body (X) will take over the emotional thought system and take control. In other words, he will become a Bad Erana and his distorted thoughts will be reflected in his emotions, causing him to live according to his thoughts. Donny is a prime example of a significant shift in character opposites.
Character Analysis: Donny Dunn
Donny has a more neurotic personality and relies heavily on the support of others. He chose the comedy profession in order to receive support from others. If you pay attention, after each joke he tries to gauge the audience’s reaction to see if he has received the support of others. The most striking aspect is that Donny has chosen an area where his character traits and skills are weak, and he lacks insight into this area. It is during this time that he meets TV writer Darrien O’Connor. Darrien invests more in him than is necessary. Being hierarchically superior and older than Donny, Darrien fulfils Donny’s need for the lost other. He finds the “lost father” he lacks within himself and trusts him. As in the comedy, he misses environmental cues in his relationship with Darrien and makes bad decisions with a scattered mind. Until he hits rock bottom.
Darrien O’Connor is a real manipulator and anti-social. He takes advantage of Donny’s scattered mind and youth to abuse him. As a result, Donny experiences alienation from his body after a major trauma. He presents his body, which he considers worthless, to others as if it were an insignificant object. There is a high level of hatred within him towards the predator. At the same time, the hatred is directed against himself and his own life.
At the root of his relationship with Martha is this scattered behaviour. Because his scattered mind doesn’t function well, it makes it difficult for him to pick up on environmental cues and make appropriate responses to stimuli. Although Martha, like Darrien, displays her own troubled mind from the beginning to the end of their acquaintance, the weak self-awareness of his mind also prevents him from effectively analysing external stimuli.
